Does Teachers Freedom Allaince know that Brad Miller spent years covering up and aggressively defending D49 Superintendent Peter Hilts’ unethical and covet implementation of harmful versions of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) in D49? This agenda was voted through by treacherous board members Lori Thompson, John Graham, and Rick Van Wieren, self-proclaimed “Christian conservatives.” To compensate for the absence of those principles in practice, these three had to enhance their masquerade by claiming a new label of “Constitutional Christian conservatives” used ad nauseum during board meetings.
This cadre of fork-tongued shysters seemed to treasure being Hilts/Miller’s bootlickers over the welfare of our children. They eventually trained up another recruit in Jamilyn D’avola and this dysfunctional model of Useful Idiots continues today with new faces on the board.

Liu quickly found herself to be the lonesome dove in a 1-4 minority in her efforts to improve academic performance and the district’s financial accountability and transparency. Her attempt to expose questionable practices and financials were twisted as “attacking teachers,” “creating a toxic environment in D49,” and “disruptive misinformation.” Her attempts to scrutinize and expose district practices and finances were often characterized by critics as “attacking teachers,” creating a “toxic environment,” or causing disruption.

The public persecution and humiliation of Liu, apparently coordinated by Brad Miller with multiple news outlets, exclusively intended to force Liu’s resignation even as her support base grew. During this media spectacle, the board of Useful Idiots officially announced eleven criminal and civil allegations against Liu, It is one of the appalling acts against a public official we have witnessed anywhere.
While these serious allegations against Liu generated substantial public attention, no supporting evidence was ultimately produced to validate them. Unfortunately, the same level of visibility was not given to the subsequent lack of substantiation, nor was there a meaningful retraction or apology from the accusers. As is often the case, the accusation made headlines; the absence of evidence did not.This will be the legacy of John Graham, Lori Thompson, Rick Van Wieren, and Jamilynn D’avola.
The attack led by Miller was relentless, unethical, and without precedent- especially against one of the very few board members who consistently attempted to fulfill her fiduciary duties and upheld her oath to the public.
Ivy Liu refused to be coerced to resign. She would not be bullied or intimidated. She continued exposing the misdeeds in D49. The retaliation and defamatory tactics led by lawyer Brad Miller and Superintendent Peter Hilts continued for the rest of her term, including gerrymandering to prevent her participation in the November 2023 election, followed by the illegitimate actions to keep her off the ballot despite meeting all the petition requirements.
This is just the tip of the iceberg of misdeeds by the community’s perception of Miller’s crime family, which include a coop of shysters and three of his grown offsprings. Two are attorneys in Miller’s firm, while another is reportedly committing similar conduct within ERBOCES, currently under scrutiny by another concerned constituent.
