In reality, board members Jamilynn D’avola and Lori Thompson acted overly deferential to the district’s lawyer and superintendent, and chose not to demand solutions to the 14-year-long declining academic performance and unaccounted millions exposed by Chief Financial Officer Trautenberg two years ago.
Unfortunately, the self-serving stints regarding bathrooms and sports by D’avola and Thompson opened a Pandora’s box to be exploited by the radical progressives on the new board.

Deb Schmidt remains the sole holdover from that era of true grassroots warrior Ivy Liu, who stepped forward again to run for the board and push for greater accountability and transparency on entrenched district issues, despite the ongoing public defamation she endured from the D49 criminals. Her 2025 candidacy encountered, not surprisingly, a fierce campaign smear by the bad actors who did not desire D49 exposure, public scrutiny, and damage control.
Her absence from the board is the latest chapter in the relentless blackballing of the lone voice demanding real accountability from the administration. Notably, the financial crisis currently affecting D49 is a manifestation of the financial discrepancies Ivy Liu raised publicly back in 2021–2023. She was defamed and crucified for it.
We need meaningful change through the ongoing recall efforts and future elections to restore focused, accountable leadership that puts students, staff, and taxpayers first. Once and for all.
NOW WHAT?
While test scores vacillate at subpar, illiterate levels, finances remain egregiously unaccounted for, and the district bleeds talent, the board fixates on a misguided, radical ideological signaling. Just as it took the country to fall to hellish levels under Biden before Trump could come in to restore it, maybe that D49 needs to hit rock bottom with this new board.
Parents are galvanized to demand reform. Students needed competence. Taxpayers demanded accountability and transparency. What they got instead was more political theater—and proof that this board is not any more capable of governing with seriousness, restraint, or common sense than the last 14 years of Useful Idiots on the board. But KNOW THIS: we need a new board who is intelligent and visionary enough to detroy the roots of the corruption, not just the symptoms.

As for financials, districts don’t just lose millions of dollars for no reason. This has been going on for several years. Who’s responsible for this? Embezzlement anyone? It would definitely not be the first time criminals steal from school districts because the accountability and transparency sre so low. Remember former board member Ivy Liu actually reported missing monies as far back as 2022 and they (most likely the complicit) burned her ass for it- specifically publicly persecuted her by making up a bunch of false allegations against her to try to get to resign!
